Well this was certainly a fun one for me and I hope to be able to bring many more opportunities like this to the readers of DFB. The Best Buy $25 Gift Card Giveaway has ended and the winners have been selected. Before I reveal who the lucky winners are, I would like to say that I really enjoyed reading all of the responses, seeing the great variety of things that you guys were excited about means that Best Buy has done a great job with its improvements. The folks at Best Buy were impressed with your responses as well, it was great feedback for them. So I want to thank you guys, each and everyone of you who participated.
And now without further ado, I take great pleasure in announcing the winners of the $25 Best Buy Gift Card Giveaway:
Congrats to all 5 winners!!! I hope you enjoy your prize
Something miraculous happened to me (and by extension, you) recently; Best Buy contacted me and asked me to come out to the grand reopening of one of their stores in Minnesota. They wanted me to check it out and find out about all of the new and exciting changes that they’ve made and then come back and tell all of you guys about it. Okay maybe miraculous is too strong of a word, but it’s still pretty freaking awesome! There are a couple reasons that make it “pretty freaking awesome”:
As you guys know, Best Buy is my favorite store; even Tre knows this, anytime something from Best Buy comes in the mail, he ensures that it’s kept safe and separate for me until I come home (maybe he enjoys the sparkle in my eye when I open it)
Best Buy truly has made some really amazing changes, and if it wasn’t for this opportunity, I wouldn’t have known about a few of them. Since I’m gonna tell you guys all about them, it means you may not have known about them either
The good folks over at Best Buy were thoughtful enough to provide me with a gift card for coming in and doing the review. And because they are so awesome, they also provided 5 (FIVE) gift cards to be given away to Daddy’s Fish Bowl readers.
I think many of you were sold with reason number 3, so I’ll just stop here.

Growing up I didn’t really understand or value the true meaning of Thanksgiving. To me, it was all about the over abundance of good food & a few extra days off from school, that’s all that really mattered. Sure I had a ton of things to be grateful for: I live in a household with both of my parents, we lived in the better part of the bad side of town (if that makes any sense), and I had a Mom that dedicated every inch of her being to making sure that I had a better life than she did. You see back then, I know all of those things, I guess I just felt that I was entitled to them and didn’t count them as blessings.
I typically don’t get too excited about specific companies or products, unless it’s Apple, or PS3, or Right Guard deodorant. Okay, so maybe I do get obsessed excited about a few things here or there, but today’s company/product is different, it’s different because it’s totally awesome! Hmmmm, maybe I’ve said that before as well, um, okay, let’s just go with this one: it’s different because I said so! Too strong? Ah, I got it, it’s different because it’s totally FREE!!! Whew, now that that’s out of the way, now I can focus on more important things like explaining why the Lowe’s Build And Grow clinic is so awesome.
Do you guys have any idea what is happening on Aug 6th, 2011? No, well let me fill you in: this blog is turning 2 years old!!! How cool is that right? To celebrate the 2nd blogiversary of Daddy’s Fish Bowl, I’m hosting my very first giveaway to show my appreciation to you guys for all of your support, comments, advice, laughs, tears…pretty much everything that you, the reader, has done for this blog. I appreciate it all and want to celebrate by giving back. Since this is a blog focused primarily on kids, I thought the perfect prize to give away would be a $25 gift card to Toys R Us. I mean seriously, who doesn’t love Toys R Us? It’s where a kid can be a kid. I know a lot of my readers don’t have kids, but don’t fret; Toys R Us has things for big kids too, so you’ll definitely want to participate in this giveaway as well. I’m extremely excited to be hosting this giveaway and can’t wait to find out the winner, who will be selected on Aug 6th 2011. The rules of the giveaway are listed below; check them out and have fun, good luck to all of you.
I know a lot of my readers are good samaritans, and just as I do, enjoy giving back and helping others. That’s why today’s post will highlight a great opportunity to do exactly that, a chance to open your doors and provide a great summer experience for a child who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have any time away from home during their summer break. The Fresh Air Fund is a non profit agency that has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities. WOW, that’s amazing, 1.7 million kids? They have been operational since 1877 and continue to expand each year. The Fresh Air Fund is in need of host families in rural or suburban areas to sponsor a child for as little as a two week period. During this time, the family would have the opportunity to meet and get to know the child and provide them with a much needed break from the day to day hustle and bustle of inner city life. Currently, the program operates in 13 northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.
I’ve looked at my Google Analytics, so I know that a lot of my readers are from these areas, hopefully some of you will participate in this great opportunity, it truly appears to be a mutually beneficial program for both the children who participate as well as the generous host families. For those of you who don’t fall into the 13 state operating realm, there are other ways to take action and be a part of the Fresh Air Fund. In addition to the host family portion of the program, the Fresh Air Fund also facilitates free summer camps for inner city children. As you can imagine, running a camp for 3,000 kids requires quite a bit of capital, so if you can’t become a host family, please consider donating. Your funds will go a long way in putting smiles on kids faces and becoming the highlight of their summer vacation.
For more information, please visit the Fresh Air Fund website at the following address: http://freshairfundhost.org/ . If you are considering becoming a host family, please act fast, as interviews are currently ongoing.
