However, blog posts are not. Yes, this is a Valentine’s Day recap post and I know it’s a little late, but hey, I’ve been busy, so sue me. This year, Vday was a little different, mainly due to the fact that I spent it shacked up in a hotel room. Wait a minute, I’ve spent many a Valentine’s Day shacked up in a hotel room, so I guess that doesn’t make this one much different, so let me rephrase: I spent it shacked up in a hotel room ALONE. Due to business reasons, I was on a whirlwind tour of the Midwest during the early portion of this week. Or maybe, I was out gallivanting with my other woman, as that post shows, I’ve been known to be a cheating husband. Even though I was away from the wife on Vday this year, I made sure we were able to celebrate and have a great time before I left.
Okay DFB family, time for a serious topic here at the bowl. As I write this, I have my vodka & cranberry sitting next to the computer; attempting to recover from the events that just took place in my household. Timeout, I know you may be thinking how dare he bring up a serious topic while under the influence? My response: some of the greatest ideas known to man were created while in a bar & written on a cocktail napkin! I’ve even included a reference. (editor’s note: the events actually took place 2 nights ago. I guess there was more vodka than cranberry in that drink and I didn’t get a chance to finish the post).
This past weekend, I surprised Fefe with a wonderful treat; we went to our first food & wine pairing session. I must admit, I was quite impressed and learned several new things.I found this cool deal on Living Social, for the Vineyards at South Point and immediately thought it’d be perfect for Fefe.Myself, I’m not so much a wine guy, I’m a lot less civilized, give me beer and liquor and you’ve made my day.Back in college, they used to call me the liquortologist.I’m not sure if it was because I had a penchant for knowing my fine spirits, or because I was a lush.Either way, wine was hardly ever on my menu.So I felt this would be a good way to broaden my horizons and to build upon Fefe’s budding connoisseurism (no that’s not a real word, you don’t have to go and check).Little did I know, deep down inside every little connoisseur, lies a drunken commoner just waiting to be unleashed.
Have you ever been accused of something that you know deep down in your heart, you didn’t do? Have you tried to explain your side of the story, offering explanations, justifications, and just down right sound logic to no avail? Only to have your accuser look at you with a condemning look that can make the most innocent man feel guilty. If you have experienced these things, then you know exactly what I went through last night. It was a horrible experience; it is over now, although the look on her face was one of distrust after our dialog was finished. I don’t know where we stand after this, but one thing is for sure: I love my wife and would never break our sacred vows by cheating on her.
Since this is the last day of the first week of the New Year (wow, that’s a mouthful), I figured, that it’s the last opportunity to share a quick holiday re-cap with you guys. I didn’t blog much over the holidays and during that time we had Christmas, Tre’s Birthday, and New Years. I wouldn’t be much of a Daddy Blogger if I didn’t share the share a few highlights from these events. Of the three holidays that occurred during my vacation, I’d have to say Christmas was my favorite. We had a ball celebrating each of the days, but for some reason Christmas was pure comedy from start to finish, so let’s start there.
Happy New Year!!!!! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and vacation time. It’s the first day back to work for me, so that means a fresh new blog post for you. I planned on doing a really big post to mark the “100th post at Daddy’s Fish Bowl” but, I miscalculated and this is actually the 101st post. I’ll blame it on the egg nog. But since this is a new year, I wanted to mark it with a quick recap of 2010. So today, I’m bringing to you, the top 10 Daddy’s Fish Bowl blog posts of 2010. We’ll countdown to the number one spot, do you think you know which post will be given the 2010 crown? Take a guess and leave it in the comments section, no cheating!!!! Feel free to click the links to revisit any of the top 10 stories of last year, enjoy.
Why do people have kids? Have you ever wondered the answer to that question? If you’re a parent, I’m sure you have, you’ve had to think what is my motivation for having children? In the olden times, people had children out of necessity; they would create large families to ensure that enough hands were on deck to meet family obligations, e.g. farm work. But now things are different, the vast majority of people having children are no longer doing so in an attempt to gain free labor; hence, the size of families has dropped dramatically. So if you’re not having a kid to ensure there’s always someone around to do your bidding, then why the hell would anyone want one of these snot nosed, loud mouthed, money guzzling buggers? Oops, umm, bundles of joy, yeah that’s it, why would anyone want one of these little bundles of joy?
Ty’s first day of kindergarten was filled with highs and lows (the lows can all be attributed to Fefe). There was excitement as well as sadness and a little bit of anger mixed in too. Most kindergarten first days run pretty smoothly, ours resulted in us getting kicked out of the school. Read on to hear all about it.
Allow me to take you back, back in time to a place when things were much much simpler. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine…wait a minute, if you close your eyes, how can you read this post? Okay scratch that, keep your eyes open and imagine your oh so wonderful childhood, when you had not a care in the world. Ah the good ole days right, a bag of chips cost 25 cents, summer actually meant 2 entire months of freedom. Yeah, life was a lot easier back then and as much as we’d like to stay young forever, it’s not very feasible. However, when there are kids around, you can be forever young, reliving your special memories through them. That’s what happened to me the other day, Tre made a comment that showed my exactly how simplistic his world view is and it’s been the highlight of my week, possibly the whole month.
Wow, so today is August 6, 2010 and that means that it has been one complete year since my first post here at Daddy’s Fish Bowl. Now normally I would make a huge deal out of this, pop champagne, and break out the noise makers. You guys would send all types of lavish gifts to congratulate me on my 1 year blogversary and we would all party like it’s 1999 (wait, is that saying still relevant?) Well hold on to all of your presents because I’m not making a big stink about it due to the fact that I took a 6 month hiatus. It doesn’t really seem proper to celebrate an anniversary if you’ve only been together half of the year. So today is just another regular day in the blogosphere for me. Maybe next year we can have a party.
Don’t get all down and out just yet however, because today is special for a much greater reason. Today is Fefe’s birthday, so that’s more than reason enough to party and celebrate!!! So with that said, I’m going to step away from the computer and go enjoy some quality time with my wife for her birthday. As a parting gift, I leave you with an original poem that I wrote and “performed” for her, which describes how truly special she is.
