Faking An Injury

Tre playing with his "friends"

Tre playing with his "friends"

Yesterday we discussed the possibility of Ty becoming the ruler of the free world in the near future, and today I would like to talk about Tre’s potential future employment opportunities.  Tre is beginning to master the art of “make believe” and “pretend”, skills that he has gotten so good at, that most of the time I can’t tell if he’s faking or being serious.  So considering this natural ability to confuse the hell out of his parents, I assume that Tre will be none other than the next Hollywood superstar.  Move over Will Smith, there’s a new Fresh Prince in town!

Tre has 3 main acting abilities: he can pretend to be hurt (great for a fight scene), he can mimic sounds and animals (voice acting), and he can produce fake tears on demand (perfect for a love story).  In his short time on this earth I have witnessed these talents plenty of times, and they’re always amusing, when I can determine that it’s fake that is.  He follows through with such conviction that I think he deserves an Oscar.  I mean seriously, if he’s “pretending” to be hurt and you aren’t buying it, he’ll lay in even harder.  He’ll bust out with a few “oooh, ouch’s” and if that doesn’t reel you in the fake tears will begin to flow.  One sign of a good actor is being able to sell the scene to the audience the entire time, until the director yells cut; well Tre is the director of these movies and he refuses to end until the audience is captivated.

Let me give you an example, a few weeks ago, Fefe called me at work and told me that Tre had been pretending to get hurt.  I asked her, why would he do that and what does he know about faking anyway? I had forgotten about the Fake Fallout (video) routine he used to pull.  She explains that he has been doing it all day for attention, anytime she would attempt to do something that did not revolve around Tre, he magically got hurt.  I just couldn’t fathom that my boy would manipulate something as serious as an injury to his advantage, then I remembered that he was my son, so the idea wasn’t too far fetched after all (I once wore an eye patch in high school for no reason other than sympathy).

Once I got home after work, the truth was revealed and I was shocked to learn that the tales Fefe had told me where all true.  When I walked in the house, everyone came to greet me, except for Tre that is.  Apparently, he wasn’t finished being ruler of the house and needed the spotlight back on him.  So he takes one of his push toys and rams it into the couch.  After the collision, he immediately falls on the floor and let’s out a few “ouch’s”.  I mean, if you would have saw him, you would of thought the kid was reenacting a car crash scene.  Fefe says: “see, this is what I’ve been telling you about, I’ve been dealing with it all day”.  So my plan was to ignore it, let’s see where he takes this.  We keep talking, he gets louder.  We go into another room, he follows us, shouting “Mommy, Daddy, oooh oooh ouch”.  So I ask Fefe, what do I have to do to make him stop and she explains that I must ask him if he’s okay and then rub his back.  Well, me being me, I simply ask him if he was okay and declined the rubbing of the back request.  Well, Tre being Tre, that wasn’t good enough, so he continued with the oooh’s and popped a few tears as well.  That made me give in, he gave a great performance so I guess the least I could do was offer a little recognition for his acting ability.  So once again, I ask if he is okay and this time rub his back.  Immediately after, it was like wam bam thank you mam! He said “I’m okay” and ran away as happy as can be.  I guess me rubbing his back was the moment that he knew the audience was right where he wanted them, so his job was done and it was time to cut the scene.  After he ran away I looked at Fefe and all she could do was shake her head, the little one had won again.

The video below depicts how Tre fakes like his uncle has done something wrong to him.  Notice how he continues to “cry” until I punish Ricky for his wrong doing.  Once this is done, Tre is fine and actually goes to comfort Ricky.

Tre is such a good faker. He is really getting good at it now because its getting hard for me to tell when he is hurt or not. Tre also uses this to his advantage at night when it is time for bed. He lays down on his bed and pretends to be crying so that someone will come in his room with him, lol.

Tre is a trip. I see he takes after Shaniah. She’s such a drama queen herself. I just laugh at her because I know she inherited the trait from me. Great story. I have to make sure I get his autograph next time I’m out there. I know it’s going to worth some money, but I wouldn’t sell it anyway, lol.
